Sharina Filion

Founder & Owner - Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy

 

Program Director | Head Coach U13 Majors

Sharina Filion is the Founder and Owner of Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy and Owner of VSPG Hockey Development. A former Mount Royal University women’s hockey player and Hockey Canada certified coach (Coach Level 1, Coach Level 2, and Development 1), Sharina has spent more than a decade developing athletes, building hockey programs, and creating opportunities for young players to reach their full potential.

Her experience includes coaching and leadership roles from U7 through U15 AA and elite development hockey, providing a unique perspective on long-term athlete development. Throughout her coaching and development career, Sharina has worked with and helped develop athletes who have gone on to compete at the NHL, IIHF World Junior Championship, and Team Canada levels, including gold medal-winning athletes.

Drawing on both her competitive playing experience and background in psychology, Sharina brings a unique approach to athlete development that balances technical skill, confidence, resilience, leadership, and personal growth. Her philosophy centers on developing complete athletes who excel both on and off the ice.

As Founder and Program Director of Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy, Sharina has built a respected independent hockey development program dedicated to helping athletes become confident players, strong leaders, and exceptional teammates. Through a development-first approach, Venom continues to provide opportunities for young athletes to grow their skills, character, and love for the game in a positive, challenging, and supportive environment.

Skills Development Coach

At Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy, we are committed to providing our athletes with exceptional instruction and mentorship. We carefully select coaches who share our development-first philosophy and bring the experience, knowledge, and passion needed to help players reach their full potential.

Our Skills Development Coach will play a key role in refining skating, puck skills, hockey IQ, and overall performance through focused, high-quality training.

Richie Hubbell

 

Goaltender Development Director

Richie Hubbell brings years of experience in elite goaltender development to Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy. Having worked with goaltenders at the AAA, Junior, and collegiate levels, Richie is passionate about helping young goalies build confidence, refine their technical skills, and develop the habits required for long-term success. 

Throughout his coaching career, Richie has served in goaltending development roles with AAA programs, junior hockey organizations, and specialized goalie development programs. His approach focuses on technical excellence, game awareness, athletic movement, and mental resilience, providing Venom goalies with the tools they need to perform at their best.

At Venom, Richie is committed to creating a positive, challenging, and supportive environment where goaltenders can grow their confidence, maximize their potential, and develop a lifelong passion for the position.

Cary Grant

 

Power Skating Coach

Cary Grant brings more than 20 years of experience in skating development, athlete performance, and hockey instruction to Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy. Having worked with athletes from minor hockey through Junior A, WHL, and Team Canada programs, Cary is passionate about helping players develop the skating foundation needed to succeed at higher levels of the game.

At Venom, Cary focuses on improving speed, agility, edge control, balance, and skating efficiency, helping athletes become more confident, explosive, and effective on the ice. His commitment to technical excellence and long-term athlete development makes him a valuable member of the Venom coaching staff.

Jaydin Payne

 

Head Coach U11 Majors 

Jaydin Payne is a passionate coach dedicated to developing young athletes both on and off the ice. His coaching philosophy centers on skill development, teamwork, accountability, and creating a positive environment where players can build confidence while developing a lifelong love for the game.

As Head Coach of Venom U11 Major, Jaydin is committed to helping athletes strengthen their hockey fundamentals, compete with confidence, and embrace the habits that lead to long-term success. He believes every player deserves the opportunity to develop, improve, and contribute to the team’s success.

Jaydin’s focus on player development, character, and team culture helps create an environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
