Rocky Mountain Venom Expand Academy Programming for 2026/27 Season

Airdrie, Alberta - The Rocky Mountain Venom are proud to announce a significant expansion of their academy lineup for the 2026/27 winter season, continuing the program’s rapid growth and commitment to elite hockey development in Western Canada.

Adding to the existing U11 Major, U13 Major, and U13 Female programs, the Venom will introduce:

  • A second U13 team
  • A 2013-born team

All teams will compete in the Premier Hockey League (PHL), providing athletes with a high-level, competitive environment focused on development, performance, and long-term growth.

Founded in 2024 by Sharina Filion, the Rocky Mountain Venom have quickly evolved from a single U11 team into a five-team academy, now supporting over 100 male and female athletes. The program has established itself as a premier non-profit option for players seeking elite hockey and unparalleled development opportunities.

“This growth is about creating more opportunity for athletes to continue pursuing their passion in a structured, high-performance environment,” said Filion. “We’re building something that not only develops players on the ice, but helps shape them as individuals.”

A key driver behind the program’s success is its partnership with Viper Sports Performance Group (VSPG), delivering an integrated development model that combines on-ice training with off-ice performance. The academy is further distinguished by its paid coaching model, ensuring a consistent and professional standard across all teams.

The Rocky Mountain Venom’s continued growth is also reflected in the expanding reach of its athlete base. The program now attracts players from across the region, including Chestermere, Cochrane, Calgary, Olds, and Strathmore, alongside a strong core from Airdrie. This growing geographic footprint highlights the increasing demand for a development-focused, high-performance hockey environment and reinforces the program’s rising profile.

As the Rocky Mountain Venom look ahead to the 2026/27 season, the focus remains clear: to provide a pathway for athletes to compete, develop, and thrive in an elite hockey environment built on teamwork, integrity, and purpose.
